What Recycling Brokerage Services Mean

Greene Recycling offers recycling brokerage services for businesses that produce a qualifying volume of baled cardboard. As a broker, we sell that cardboard into the recycling market, where paper mills use it to make new boxes and paperboard. When a customer qualifies, we may return part of the cardboard’s value to them as a rebate.

Brokerage is one service among several. Dependable pickup comes first for every account, and brokerage is an added option for customers whose volume supports it.

Who Qualifies for Brokerage

Brokerage, along with any rebate, is available for customers with 53 or more bales available for pickup. That volume lets a full load of material move into the market efficiently. Distribution centers, manufacturing plants, grocery stores, and large retail sites often reach it. If you aren’t sure whether your site qualifies, call us and we’ll look at your bale count with you.

The cardboard market is still recovering, so we tie recycling brokerage services to volume that makes sense for everyone. We would rather be clear about who qualifies than promise a return the market can’t support.

What Affects the Value of Your Cardboard

Recycled cardboard is a commodity, and several things decide what a load is worth:

  • Bale weight. Full, dense bales move more fiber per trip.
  • Cleanliness. Plastic film, foam, food waste, and trash lower the value of a bale.
  • Dryness. Wet cardboard breaks down and is harder for mills to process.
  • Consistency. Bales of similar size and quality, picked up on a regular schedule, are easier to market.
  • Market prices. Prices for recycled fiber rise and fall with demand from mills.

Because market prices move, recycling brokerage services never come with a guaranteed or fixed return. We’ll explain how these factors apply to your bales before you start.

Smaller Accounts Get the Same Dependable Pickup

Not every business has 53 bales ready at once, and that’s fine. Our cardboard bale pickup handles bales from 180 lbs up to 1,200 lbs on weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly schedules. A single shop gets the same reliable truck, the same point of contact, and the same route built around its schedule as a national chain. No job is too big or too small.

How Brokerage Fits With Our Other Services

Good bales start with good equipment. If you need a new or larger machine, we sell new and used balers and can set up installation. High-volume sites that fill a dock quickly often use our tractor trailer service, with drop trailers or live loading, to move bales a full load at a time. Those same sites are often the best fit for recycling brokerage services.

Getting More Value From Every Bale

A few habits protect the value of your cardboard. Keep bales indoors or covered so they stay dry. Train staff to keep plastic and trash out of the baler. Build full bales and store them near the dock so pickups are quick. Read more in our article on getting more value from every cardboard bale.

Good for Your Business and the Environment

Brokered cardboard goes back into new packaging instead of the landfill. Corrugated cardboard is one of the most recycled packaging materials in the country, according to the EPA. Recycling brokerage services keep that fiber in use and give your company real waste reduction numbers to report.
